About Me

My name is Jonathan Sharp and this page tells a little about me.

First of all, I am happily married to my “high-school sweetheart”, Jolene. She and I were wed on June 23rd, 2002. Our website, JonandJolene.com, is hosted on this same server. We have truly enjoyed ourselves in our first years of marriage and have many dreams for the future. We have two great Beagles, Sami and Tennyson, and you can see plenty of pictures of them on our website. I am CTO / Senior Engineer for Campground Automation Systems, Inc., and you can learn more about that at campgroundautomation.com.

I often run Linux and/or FreeBSD on my PCs. I am quite familiar with Linux having started using it 11-12 years ago. (now 2006) I really enjoy using both Linux and FreeBSD. Playing with new OS’s is somewhat of a hobby of mine. I have experience with a plethora of operating systems including DOS, Windows (9x, NT/2000, XP), Linux (many flavors), FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris, QNX, OS/2, and MacOS, Mac OS X and Darwin.

I have a number of interests / hobbies outside of Computing. I like the outdoors very much. I especially enjoy backpacking. Living most of my life in North Georgia, I’ve been able to enjoy wonderful hiking / camping areas such as the Cohutta Wilderness, Chattahoochie National Forest, Great Smoky Mountain National Park and more. I also enjoy canoeing very much, especially with my dogs. Of particular interest to me is learning about wild edible plants. I’m merely a novice on the topic currently, but I hope to be quite the gourmet in a few years! I think my interest in the outdoors began at a young age and was encouraged by my membership in Pathfinders, a church sponsored youth club similar to the Boy Scouts.

I have a strong interest in many things scientific. Astronomy interests me a great deal. Biology and Chemistry are also things I would love to learn more about. I love reading about Robotics and Space exploration. Social Sciences are also fascinating to me. I enjoy Psychology, having taken three Psych courses at Dalton State College.

I really enjoy music of all kinds.

I am a Seventh-day Adventist Christian. You can visit the above link to the church’s main website to learn more about us. Basically, we are Christians who believe in the soon and literal return of Jesus, worship together on the biblical Sabbath, and work to fulfill Christ’s commission to spread the Gospel into all the world.
