Site online again

After a long time of being down, I brought the site back online. It is a little outdated, as it has been neglected for some time, but it’s back. I’ve been very active on a number of projects while the site has been offline, most notably, Campground Automation Systems. That project, along with several others I’ve been working on should give me a lot to blog about in the weeks and months to come.

Linked from Wikipedia

I happened to be looking over the awstats results for my site recently and noticed a Wikipedia article that links to an article of mine describing how to install Mac OS X Tiger on unsupported models.

The Wikipedia article that links to me is one about the Apple iBook. The article describes the method I came up with for installing Tiger on my unsupported PowerBook G3 (Lombard). It summarizes the steps involved in a clearer manner than my article does. It also links to another blog article which references my article while applying it to Tiger installation on a clamshell iBook.

I think it’s great to have a Wikipedia article referencing my work. It is generating a fair bit of traffic and I appreciate the association with other fine sites.

Do you feel lucky?

I always enjoy watching my web server logs to see what people are searching for on my site. I recently discovered that I am a very popular site for people searching for “caffe nonna.” Caffe Nonna is an excellent Italian restaurant located here in Nashville, TN. I wrote a review of the restaurant some time ago, and this is what people are hitting when searching for Caffe Nonna. In fact, my site is currently the number one result for “caffe nonna” on Google.

As a result, I’ve decided to post some additional information for people looking for more info about Caffe Nonna. You can visit the official website. (which has a very low Google pagerank, apparently) The directions are helpful, too. I hope this helps redirect people to the right place. And again, I highly recommend the Citrus-Ricotta Cheesecake. It is not always available, so you have to ask for it.

I also recommend Sole Mio. It is another excellent upscale Italian restaurant. Bon Apetit!

New Site Design!

As you can see, (or not, if you’re only using the RSS feed) I just updated the appearance of the site. Thanks to my friend, David Benton, I’ve learned a lot recently about proper modern website design using XHTML/CSS. I did all of the site design from scratch using Vim. The graphic elements were produced using Photoshop 7. I still have to track down the 3 pixel vertical gap showing up in IE 6. If you are using IE, just know that that white gap is not supposed to be there. Also, if you really are still using IE, do yourself a huge favor and get Firefox. Anyway, enjoy the new improved look and site navigation.

Blog migration

I just migrated my blog from bblog to wordpress. I really like my new blogging engine and plan to stick with it. (migration is kind of a pain). I also moved the blog to the root of the site as my website has become more blog-centric in recent months. I don’t yet have the best system worked out for incorporating my static pages into the site design, but site navigation is still provided from the blog. I’m still tweaking the CSS for the site, but am comfortable enough with the design to go live with it.

More about the migration: I wrote a script that migrated my blog from bblog to wordpress. It wasn’t too difficult; it just took a little time. I am providing it here for the convenience of any other switchers. The script is not perfect and there will be some data lost in migration due to the different db schemas, but take it for what its worth.

I believe the new engine and new appearance really add value to my site, and I hope I can perhaps become a greater part of the blogging community out there.
